Hello! Welcome to my kenning generator. Kennings are Anglo-Saxon poetic metaphors created by linking two words to represent another word. A common way of making kennings is to find sets of words that can compare to each other. For example: bird is to sky as fish is to ocean. Thus a bird would be a sky fish, the sky would be a bird ocean, a fish would be an ocean bird, and an ocean would be a fish sky. Type your first word in the upper left box (bird) the word it is "to" in the lower left box (sky). The first word of the next set goes in the upper right box (fish) and the word it is "to" goes in the lower right box (ocean). Once you have filled them all in click through the buttons to the right of each box in number order to see what each one is. They won't always make sense, but sometimes you'll find really cool ones.
I hope you enjoyed the kennings! Feel free to use the code for this on your own site, but as it took me a while to write, please give me credit for it.
